Our History
Since 1977, Budget has provided high-quality signs and graphics to the Chicago-land area. Budget Sign Company was acquired in 2003 from Harry
Bates and his family. Since the acquisition in 2003, Tony Comella the current owner, has expanded both the products and services offered, as well as
the overall direction of the business. In 2006, the assets of Acorn Sign Company were purchased and Acorn's customers became part of the Budget
Sign Company family. While we continued to maintain our 'sign for every budget' slogan, the Budget name simply no longer represented the breadth of
product and service offering.
Prior to acquiring Budget Sign Company, Tony owned and operated a company involved in the manufacture and distribution of a specialty product
marketed to the sign industry - Blue Dot Signs. Tony gave much thought to a change of name for the new, combined businesses. After much
consideration, he chose the name of his original company, Blue Dot. The Blue Dot family of sign companies was born: Officially named Blue Dot Sign
Company.
What is the significance of the Blue Dot? The intent behind the blue dot has always represented the earth. There have been various permeations of the
logo to date, but in most cases you will see it either as a dark blue dot or an image of the earth. Earth has often been referred to as a 'pale blue dot' as
viewed from outer space. Tony selected the earth to represent his company, as it conveyed a holistic image.
We are concerned about the earth and our environment, and the people who inhabit her as well. Before being green was en vogue, Tony was reducing
the company's environmental footprint by carefully selecting products and services based on environmental friendliness. We endeavor to reduce waste
and recycle as much as we can. Customers often comment about our recycled packaging materials and large envelopes we use for shipping and
mailing. It is not unusual for our customers to receive a sign shipped in an old Market Day box. That's just the way we roll!
Equally important for us are people: After all, we all live on and share the same small blue dot! Our staff is committed to providing the best customer
service. Our business has been built on customer referrals. Over 85% of our business is either from repeat customers, or referrals our customers
have made to friends or associates. We are very proud of this fact. And we strive to ensure both our customers and their referrals are treated fairly and
with impeccable integrity.
Community Outreach
Finally, we are committed to helping others in need. A portion of our profits is reserved for charitable and in-kind donations. As the earth gives to us, it is
our mission to give something back. Even in this challenging economy, our commitment to our friends is unwavering. Here is a partial list of NFP
organizations we support. Show us a receipt for a donation you have made (over $100) to any of these groups and we will take an additional 5% of any
labor or service we offer. Just our way of saying thank you, and rewarding you for having read this far down the page!
